What even IS Naturopathy?

Put simply: Naturopathy is a health system based on the healing power of nature.

Naturopathy sees the whole body as being intrinsically interconnected and investigates the interplay between systems to discover the underlying elements contributing to your current state of health. The practice of Naturopathy emphasises disease prevention and healthy living and believes that in many circumstances, the body has the ability to self-heal using natural methods and minimal intervention….. sometimes all it takes is a nudge…..

Naturopathy is regarded as a traditional and natural medicine by the World Health Organisation (2010). Naturopathic principles emerged from the traditional healing practices of ancient cultures from around the world. These included Greek (Hippocrates), Arabic, Egyptian, Indian and Chinese cultures. Over the centuries, North American and European Nature Cure traditions influenced the development of contemporary practice.

These Principles of Naturapathic medicine are:

  • First, do no harm

  • Act in cooperation with the healing power of nature

  • Seek, identify and treat the fundamental cause of illness

  • Treat the whole person using individualised care plans

  • Practitioner as teacher

  • Focus on disease prevention and health promotion

  • Wellness practices

What can a Naturopath help with?

Clients consult with Naturopaths to gain assistance managing a very broad range of conditions including cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, mental health, gastrointestinal, respiratory and reproductive conditions.

Naturopaths often work in conjunction with medical and allied health practitioners with a range of acute and chronic health conditions.

As a practitioner, I blend evidence-based medicine and traditional knowledge to create individualised treatment plans that support and stimulate the natural healing processes of my client’s bodies.

A typical consult will involve a thorough case taking, including iridology and tongue analysis. For in person sessions kinesiology will then be utilised.

For all clients, an individualised treatment plan incorporating herbal prescriptions, nutritional supplementation, food as medicine and lifestyle as medicine will be provided. If any follow up consultations are needed these are usually recommended between 2-4 weeks in the initial stages.
